ADD YOUR OBSERVATIONS

Have you seen a clownfish? Let us know where you saw it by recording your sightings.

How to add an observation

1. Be observant Get out on the reef and find a wild clownfish. Clownfish are easy to find because of their bright colours and they will always be with their host anemone.

2. Take a clear photo and position yourself directly above the anemone when the clownfish are in the anemone. If you already have a photo add it now at inaturalist. You will also be able to use our IC-ANEMONE mobile app to record observations from your phone very soon. Watch out for our android and iphone mobile app coming soon.

3. Record the clownfish and anemone species Get to know your clownfish and anemones using this identification guide.

4. Date Record the date that you made the sighting.

5. Location If possible record the GPS coordinates or note the closest reference site so we can pinpoint your sighting on a map.

6. Depth Please record the depth of water that you sighted the clownfish and anemone in.

7. Group size Count and record the number of clownfish found within the anemone.

8. Anemone bleaching All healthy host anemone species are colourful. Please record if the anemone sighted is white in colour, indicating it is bleached

9. Explore Once you've shared your observations on i-naturalist or through our android app, the IC-ANEMONE webpage will show you updates of clownfish and anemone sightings from citizen scientists around the world.
